My favorite childhood memory

The awesome Jayme asked me a question in THIS post. Thank goodness, I was really stumped what to write about! If you haven't asked me anything, you still can!

Jayme asked what my favorite childhood memory was. There are so many of them, that it was hard to think of just one. But, when the subject of childhood memories is brought up..I immediately think about a trip to Corpus Christi for my birthday. My mom told me I could bring one friend along, so I chose my best friend Natalie to go. If I'm not mistaken, it was for my 12th birthday.

My mom's cousin owned a Condo down there that was right off the beach, so we got to stay there. The closest beach from here was over 3 hours away so we rarely got to go..so this was a big thing to us! I remember being so excited, you would have thought we were going somewhere like Disney World.

The ride to Corpus was probably the best part, I remember taking paper so we could play Hangman in the backseat. I remember the weather being perfect, and having Jewel on repeat in the car. We always had to have singing competitions to see who could sing Jewel's "Who will Save your Soul" the best. I have a feeling the car ride down there was the worst part for my mom...driving almost 5 hours with two young girls who thought they were Jewel. I remember my mom finally turning the radio on and "Mellow Yellow" by Donovan was playing. I think I have thought about that song everyday of my life since then, and still occasionally let it get stuck in my head. I think Natalie and I sang Mellow Yellow the whole time we were in Corpus, I guess my mom didn't mind since it wasn't our usual Jewel. I still think we sang better than her, but anyways. :)

I remember the first thing I saw when we arrived in Corpus were some hookers standing on the corner, we ate a burger at Whataburger and could see them from our table. These were the type of hookers you see in New York...short mini skirts and 10" heels. Natalie and I thought it was hilarious..they were the first REAL hookers we had ever seen, and they weren't in a movie.

The rest of the trip was amazing, I remember waking up the next morning and going out on the balcony and there was tons of dolphins jumping in the beach, we had never seen anything like it. The beach AND dolphins, I was on cloud nine. The best birthday ever!

Now that I'm older and look back, there was nothing fantastic about the trip..it was just a trip to the beach. But, I had so much fun and the memory crosses my mind almost everyday.

It reminds me of how the little things count when you are a kid, the small trips out of town or to the Zoo made a lifetime worth of memories. I can't wait to make memories for my son.

Ok So I got to get aboard this question and answer train!

Question:What is the best thing that has happened to you or that you have done? and why? (aside from mason or kevin, just to make it a bit harder!)

What is the worst thing that has happened to you or that you have done? and why?

Cant wait to see the answer! :)
